THE Redlands City Devils are hoping to avenge a loss at their last encounter when they travel to Townsville on Saturday night for their sudden death QSL soccer semi-final against North Queensland Razorbacks.
Devils assistant coach Dave Thorogood was upbeat about the Devils' chances against the in-form Razorbacks.
"They came here and got a result a few weeks ago, but as everyone knows with finals, everything comes down to 90 minutes," he said.
"We have been disappointing in a number of our second round games, but now we are here we have nothing to lose and the lads will be determined."
The Devils rounded off their final QSL game of the season with an entertaining 6-3 home victory against Bundaberg Spirit last Saturday night.
Regular defender Raj Oshen was pushed into the forward line and in the ninth minute ran onto a tidy pass holding off a defensive challenge before dispatching the ball into the bottom right corner beyond Spirit keeper Daniel Watson.
Spirit was back on level terms just five minutes later when a defensive mix-up saw an attempted clearance roll into the path of a Bundaberg forward who gratefully smashed the ball home from six yards.
Two minutes later Redlands regained the lead when Raj Oshen ran onto Troy Wickstein's flick on and again placed his shot beyond Watson for his second of the game.
The Spirit in the 26th minute punished some poor defending from a corner when a free header from close range hit the ground in front of Devils' keeper Matt Ham, bouncing over his prostrate body to level the scores again at 2-2.
Straight from the kickoff Matt Hill sent in a cross that deceived everybody and came off the face of the Spirit crossbar before the Devils took the lead again when defender Ryan Bridge gave Watson little chance, drilling in a low angled shot.
Five minutes from the break Josh Filewood sent in a deep cross and Oshen rose above the Spirit defence to head his third and Redlands' fourth of the half.
Spirit never gave up and in the 58th minute scored a superb goal when a ball was played down the line and whipped in inch perfect for a Spirit forward to rifle a first time shot into the top right corner, to make the score 4-3.
With the 70th minute ticking over the Devils produced another excellent build-up that eventually saw the ever dangerous Close played in and this time he made no mistake and rounded the keeper before calmly dispatching into the now vacated net.
Five minutes from time the scoreline was complete when Papua New Guinean striker Tau Winnie powerfully headed home a well placed Gardner cross.
Toscanis Restaurant Redlands Man of the Match Award went to three goal hero Raj Oshen.
The Harvey Norman Red Devils Division One side kept their hopes alive in the relegation battle with a one-all draw at Grange on Saturday night.
The Redlands Reserves also came away with a point from a 2-all draw with Grange.
This weekend the QSL side play their sudden death semi-final in Townsville, while the Harvey Norman Red Devils will be playing their final home game for the season against Ipswich Knights in another key game for the Division One side.
The main game will be at 7pm with Reserves at 5pm.
