Little Athletics on the go

REDLANDS Little Athletics Centre will hold its first meet of the season at Cleveland High School on Saturday, August 30, from 3pm.

Centre manager Linda Sorensen said the young athletes were looking forward to the start of the new season and with this being an Olympic year, and the Redland schools recently competing in their district carnivals, there had been an increase in the number of enquiries regarding registration.

The major sign-on day is at Cleveland High on Saturday, August 16, but anyone unable to attend can register on Saturdays from 1pm to 2.30pm before competition starts at 3pm.

Redlands Little Athletics caters to children from the ages of five to 16 years regardless of athletic abilities.

"Little Athletics is not all about winning. The focus and encouragement is on personal development and improving on your previous personal best," Ms Sorensen said.

"It is pleasing to see the children getting so much enjoyment from their personal improvements and seeing their parents and grandparents cheering them on."

Coaching is available to children who are looking to improve their techniques. .

Coaching times are displayed on the centre noticeboard for sessions to be held during the week for athletes aged nine and over.

Redlands Little Athletics recently received a $30,000 grant from the State Government Community Benefit Fund to purchase new sporting equipment.
