Iona runs on

IONA College at Lindum saved its best effort to the last race to finish second overall in the AIC Cross Country Championship at Ipswich last week.

Marist College Ashgrove won, with St Laurences third.

The titles were based on team member placings, with lowest combined totals winning.

In the 13 years race Ashgrove led on 92 points, with St Edmunds 128, St Patrick's 129, Villanova 135 and Iona 148.

In the 14 years St Patrick's scored 88 pts, Ashgrove 108, St Laurence 110, Iona 126. Craig Townsend of Iona took third place.

In the 15 years Villanova on 89 beat Iona by 7 pts, with Ashgrove on 107.

In the 16 years Ashgrove scored 56, Iona 94 and Padua 135.

In the "blue riband" Open age event Iona's six scoring runners finished within the first 14 places for a team score of 51pts, with St Laurences on 78 pts and Ashgrove 113 pts. Tom Bell (Iona) was third in the race.

Final aggregate scores: Ashgrove 476, Iona 508, St Laurences 685, Villanova 797, St Patricks 853, St Edmunds 1017, Padua 1084, St Peters 1356
