WELLINGTON Point State School Year 7 student Taylor Mosslar has been selected in the Queensland girls 12 and under basketball team to contest the Pacific School Games in Canberra in November.

The event, which is held every three years, features teams from all Australian states and territories as well as some Pacific nations.

Over the years the games have been a preparation for future athletic performance.

Two current members of the Australia's Boomers Olympic squad, Patrick Mills and Joe Engles, were involved in the previous Pacific School Games competition.

Wellington Point State School physical education specialist teacher Bill Heron has been impressed with Taylor's progress in basketball.

"Not only is Taylor a very fit sportsperson, but she has a solid understanding and demonstrates great skill with regards to the finer points of basketball. She also has enormous passion for the game," he said.

Taylor plans to continue training hard on her basketball and fitness leading up to the games.

In early October, she travels to Gawler SA to compete at the Under 14s National Club Championships.

Her under 14 representative Spartans team, with whom she is currently training, recently finished first in Queensland.
