A TEENAGE boy arrested for shoplifting is now
facing a charge of serious assault after he allegedly punched a female police officer in the face in
Redland Bay on Sunday.
Police were called to a bottl e shop on Broadwater Terrace about noon after the shopkeeper turned away two teenage boys who allegedly had stolen alcohol from the store the day before.
The teens were found in a nearby shopping village and told they were under arrest for shoplifting.
A 17-year-old boy then allegedly punched a female police officer in the mouth and fled across the carpark, before being caught by members of the public.
He was charged with serious assault, obstructing police, public nuisance and shoplifting and
remanded in custody in the Cleveland Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
His friend, also 17, was given a notice to appear in court for shoplifting and unrelated charges of
