THE Australian women's softball team has restored its Olympic medal hopes after winning at least four of its preliminary games.

The team lost its first two games last week but has since beaten China, Chinese Taipei (Taiwan), the Netherlands and Canada.

Redlands Mariners Softball Club member Danielle Stewart hit one run during Australia's 4-0 defeat of Canada on Sunday.

The Australian team was due to play Venezuela in its final preliminary game last night but was already assured a place in Wednesday's semifinals.

The grand final will be played on Thursday night.
