Decision due on sandmining push

18/08/2008 5:08:00 PM
REDLAND City councillors are set to vote on a controversial sandmining application today.

Consolidated Rutile Limited has applied to remove up to 500,000 tonnes of sand tailings from an existing North Stradbroke Island mine each year.

Council assessment officers have recommended a preliminary approval be granted to the plan and have asked for the company to provide extensive reports on traffic and other impacts.

Environmental and community lobby groups have campaigned against the proposal.

The development assessment meeting will begin at the council chambers in Cleveland at 10am.

it must be disappointing working as a council assessment officer. moral must be low, no matter what they suggest it is rejected by this council. the quarry, russell island resort all recommended, with some modifications by these people and overridden by hand sitter councillors. they have had win over the funeral home, who knows what they think they can stop now. it is our rate money they are wasting
